New Study Affirms Print Magazines Reach Consumers

As a young girl in the pre-internet era, I loved magazines.

I read them cover to cover, soaking up all the useful information as well as the style and creativity in the advertising. It was no surprise that when I went to college I majored in marketing with a focus on advertising.

For decades, print magazines have been an effective marketing channel. Even with the boom in digital options, they wield significant power in reaching consumers, making them a perfect companion to social media and other digital marketing avenues. While the print industry has seen substantial transformation due to online content and social media, print media continues to hold its own.

The fact is print is not dead and many magazines are thriving. I like to explain it this way – the number of publications has decreased or consolidated. What are left are the most effective niche publications reaching captive audiences nationwide.

With more than 32 years in marketing, I’ve long recognized the value of local community magazines as a means of connecting with consumers in specific markets. When the opportunity arose for me to own Pooler Magazine and Effingham Magazine in south Georgia in 2019, along with the creation of Bryan County Magazine in 2023, I was confident in the immense potential.

Today these publications are flourishing. They are popular among the residents and visitors to these three areas, and they deliver impressive results for our advertisers. This is not only a testament to the dedication of our amazing team, it also demonstrates the enduring power of print magazines advertising.

And while my gut had long affirmed magazines’ effectiveness, a recent study further underscores the value of print advertising for businesses seeking to expand their reach and attract new customers.

According to the 2024 MarketData study:

Magazines are the second most trustworthy medium for branding, with 63% of consumers trusting print ads.

Consumers aged 18-34 are more likely to trust magazine print ads, with 60% saying they find print ads credible, compared to 50% of adults overall.

Magazine ads generate a 36% increase in brand favorability and a 47% increase in ad awareness compared to online display ads.

Readers spend an average of 43 minutes per issue reading print magazines, which includes engaging with advertising.

If you’re looking for even better ways to boost your business, don’t underestimate the power of print magazine advertising. It’s a great way to build credibility, show your commitment to the local community, and reach a captive audience.
